What does LTC/LTCF stand for?

-assistance and care for residents

-Individuals receiving care are usually called residents
instead of patients or clients
Residential care facilities
-Provide basic physical and emotional care
-Usually for individuals who cannot care for themselves
-Help individuals with activities of daily living
-Provide a safe and secure environment, promote
opportunities for social interactions
Extended care or skilled care facilities
-Provide skilled nursing and rehabilitative care
-Prepare resident for return to the home environment or other long-term facility
-Some have subacute units: provide rehabilitation services for
major illness or surgery, treatment for cancer, or treatments
such as dialysis or heart monitoring
Independent living and assisted living facilities
-Individuals purchase or rent unit
-Receive services such as meals, housekeeping, laundry,
transportation, social events, and basic medical care

- Vary from offices privately owned by one physician to large complexes
- Services include diagnosis, treatment, examination, basic lab testing, minor surgery
- May offer general or specialized care
Concierge Medicine
-Personalized health care
-Annual or monthly fee paid to primary care provider
for an enhanced level of care
-Physician is able to have fewer patients and more
availability
-Rates and services vary among providers
Dental Offices
- Vary in size from privately owned by one or more dentists to dental clinics
- Include general care for all ages and specialized care for certain age groups or dental conditions
Clinics or Satellite Centers
Can refer to a group of medical/dental doctors who share
a facility and other personnel
- Clinics operated by corporation or private groups and
provide special care
- Surgical clinics or surgicenters: frequently called “one-
day” service centers - Urgent, walk-in, or emergency care clinics: provide first
aid or emergency care to ill or injured patients - Rehabilitation clinics: offer physical, occupational,
speech, and similar therapies - Substance abuse clinics: provide rehabilitation for drug
and alcohol abuse
