The vendor is responsible for replacing at no charge any consigned product that has expired. Consigned items typically acquired by OR on a consignment basis include: surgical trays, surgical instruments, and implants.

22
Q

Procedure cards

A

A record maintained in the EMR system that details all the supplies required for a case and their quantities, including consumable products, reusable items, implants, along with instrumentation and equipment trays. They also contain specific OR setup instructions along with which items are to be opened and which items are PRN. These are not physician specific.

23
Q

Smartcabinet

A

An RFID cabinet used to control high value products. Requires badge access and tracks the products within the cabinet creating a tracking log of events.

24
Q

SPD

A

Sterile Processing Department
A Location within a hospital used in implementing SMS for OR where supplies, instruments and the like are stored in a sterile environment prior to usage. Depending on the size and layout of the hospital, it is possible to have more than one SPD. It is also possible that the consumable supplies are in a separate location from the SPD which is then considered the Central Sterile location for sterilizing instrument and implant trays. The SPD is also a Location defined for the hospital where soiled reusable instruments such as trays are cleaned and sterilized. The sterilized items are then returned stored in the SPD for future use. Central Sterile Location must be configured when implementing SMS for OR. The SPD normally only stores trays and supplies for perioperative areas.

25
Q

Tray

A

A Reusable item containing a collection of tools, devices or implants for performing specific surgery. A tray must be reprocessed and sterilized once seal has been broken. The contents of an implant tray is depleted from inventory while the instrument tray is not.

26
Q

Unit

A

A department in a hospital which is defined for financial purposes. A Unit is associated with a hospital, a Cost Center, a Procedure and a Location, and a Room when implementing SMS for OR. A Unit can optionally be associated with Locations and patients when implementing on nursing floors. There are certain Units in a hospital that are patient specific while there are also Units that serve all patients (e.g. Radiology might receive patients from the ICU and Orthopedics).
