Practice Manager
Administrative, management and strategic skills to run the complex business.
Main responsibilities:
HR - recruitment and retention of staff, staff roots, training, staff appraisals, employment law.
Finance - payroll, maximising income, paying bills, insurance.
Health & Safety
Contract management - oversee achievement within
QoF and enhanced services
Manage medical rota, book locus and arrange meetings.
Liaise with health board and practice manager groups.
Health care assistant/Phlebotomist
Routine work such as phlebotomy, BP checks, performing ECGs.
New patient health checks/data collection.
Data and specimen collection (not interpretation)
Health Visitor
Leading and delivering child and family health services.
Support and educate family from pregnancy to child’s 5th birthday.
New birth visits and advice on feeding, weaning and dental health.
Specific support on subjects like postnatal depression.
Leadership to child services team.
Safeguarding and protecting children in vulnerable situations.
Employed by the local health board.
MacMillan Nurse
Involved in supporting, pain management and psychological support of cancer patients.
Need at least 5 years experience (2 being in cancer or palliative care).
Caseload management, advisory consultancy, education, research and audit.
Receptionist
Reception and administrative responsibilities (e.g. filing).
Should not undertake any medical tasks as they are not trained for this.
Community Midwife
Work in teams, first point of contact for pregnant women.
Responsible for care from start of pregnancy to early postnatal stage.
Child protection, similar to health visitors.
Community Psychiatric Nurse (CPN)
Work with community mental health team. They are registered mental health nurses (RMN).
Assessment of patients in acute and ongoing phase.
Monitoring compliance with medication.
Counselling approaches, social skills training and anxiety management.
Specialist Substance Misuse Nursing (CPNA)
Include CPNs and RMNs.
Assessment, planning and implementing care plan.
Aims of treatment:
Minimise harm relating to drug misuse; retain clients in treatment; enable clients to achieve abstinence safely and effectively; educate on risks; improve overall health of individuals; enable client to adopt and continue a drug-free lifestyle.
Community Pharmacist
Minor ailments service - simple conditions like eczema, allergies, conjunctivitis, etc.
Chronic medication service.
Acute medication service.
Public health service - support to stop smoking for example.
Practice Pharmacist
Ensure medicine use is safe, appropriate and cost effective.
Advice on stock control and drug storage.
Analyse prescribing date using PRIMSA and discuss this with practice.
Assist practice in choosing 3 prescribing areas to work on each year and provide support to achieve these.
Advice on implementing local and national guidelines in practice.
Physiotherapist
Employed by NHS Board.
Concerned with human movement and functional ability.
Use a physical approach to promote, maintain and restore physical, psychological and social well-being.
Occupational Therapist
Assessment and treatment of individuals with physical, mental or social problems to encourage maximum functional independence and improve QoL.
House assessments prior to discharge.
