Nervous System
Body system that allows people to think, use the senses, move, and maintain important body processes
Neuron
Cell that is specialized to receive and send signals
Cerebrum
Largest part of the brain which interprets information from the sensory organs; controls muscle actions, and is responsible for intelligence, personality, and memory
Cerebellum
Part of the brain which controls coordinated, smooth muscle activity
Brainstem
Part of the brain that controls heartbeat and breathing rate
Spinal cord
Part of the nervous system that carries signals between the brain and the body
Endocrine system
Body system that produces chemical messengers, called hormones, which regulate body processes
Pituitary gland
Master gland of the body that releases hormones to control other endocrine organs
Thyroid hormone
Substance produced in the thyroid, which controls the rate at which the body uses energy
What does the nervous system, sensory organs and endocrine system do?
They help regulate the body’s function internally and with the outside world

Organized into 2 parts

Central nervous system (CNS)
