What is neoliberalism?
The political mindset. A belief in a free-market, little regulation, low taxation.
Benefits businesses globally. Forced privatisation using IMF.
IMF - give loans to poor countries (they have to comply. Can lead to wars). Exploitation of poor countries.
What were the changes in the health and social care act?
Decentralisation (Gp have to purchase care from hospitals)
Consumerism (choice)
Managerialism (targets and indicators)
Outsourcing/tendering of clinical services
How does inequality impact public health?
Less social mobility means,poor stay poor. More at risk of depression, smoking etc and ill health
Who controls much of the NHS expenditure?
Community commissioning groups (CCGs) made up of GPs, nurses, public and advisors.
It used to be the primary care trusts
How was healthcare funded before the NHS?
National insurance from pay
Didnt benifits children, house wives or the elderly
How did the NHS come about?
WW2, government became labour - beveridges vision (cradle to grave, all pay all benefit, free at the point of delivery)
Politician bevan - drives against people who are worried about care for all (rich and private doctors)
How is the NHS changing now?
Health and social care act 2012 - abolished the NHS. Removed social care contract from 1948.
Direction towards privatisation.
Reduced services available
Fees for lower clinical priority services
Personal private medical insurance
What are sustainability and transformation plans?
