What is health status?
An individual’s or population’s overall health and wellbeing, taking into account various indicators such as life expectancy and morbidity.
What is burden of disease?
The burden of disease refers to the impact of a diseases or illnesses on a population, measured in terms of mortality, morbidity, and disability.
What is core activity limitation?
When an individual has difficulty with any of the three core activities.
What are the three core activities?
- self-care
- communication
- mobility
What is DALY?
DALY is disability adjusted life years. It is a measure of burden of disease and is the years lived with a disability for people living with the health condition.
What is life expectancy?
Life expectancy is the average number of years a person is expected to live based on current mortality rates
What is morbidity?
Is ill health in an individual and the level of ill-health within a population.
What is mortality?
The number of deaths in a population in a given period.
What is prevalence?
The number of proportion of cases of a particular disease or condition present in a population at a given time.
What is psychological distress
relates to unpleasant feelings and emotions that affect an individual’s level of functioning
What is YLL?
Years of life lost and measures how many years of expected life are lost due to premature death.
What is incidence?
refers to the numbers of new cases of a disease or condition in a population during a given period.
What are hospital separations?
Episodes of hospital care that start with admission and end at transfer, discharge or death.
What is chronic condition?
Any disease or condition that lasts a long time. It usually can’t be cured and therefore requires ongoing treatment.
Examples of chronic disease.
Asthma, Coeliac disease, arthritis.
