Self-Assessed Health Status
Is based on someone’s own view of their health and wellbeing.
Life Expectancy
The number of years a person can expect to live if the death rates stay the same.
Mortality
The number of deaths in a population in a certain period
Morbidity
Levels of ill health in an individual or population (includes disease, injury and disability).
What does 1 DALY equal?
Disability Adjusted Life Years (DALY)
A measure of Burden of disease.
One DALY equals one year of healthy life lost due to premature death and time lived with illness, disease and injury.
YLL
Years of Life Lost due to premature death.
YLD
Years of Life Lost due to disability.
Burden of Disease
Combines mortality data with morbidity data so they can be compared.
Incidence
The measure of the number of NEW cases of disease (etc.) that develop in a population in a period of time.
Prevalence
Measure of ALL individuals affected by the disease in a period of time.

The state of a person’s mind and the capacity to think and process information and express thoughts. Low levels of stress, self-esteem.
