Health Promotion Models And Theories Flashcards
Why do we use theory?
- Theory presents a systematic way of understandings events or situations
- Explain and predicts
Characteristics of a useful theory
Logical
Consistent with every day observations
Used previously with success
Supported by Evidenced based
Levels of influences in the ecological model
Intrapersonal Interpersonal Institution / organization Community Public policy
Define theory
A set of concepts , definitions and propositions that explains or predicts events or situations by illustrating the relationships between variables.
Intrapersonal level
Individual characteristics that influence behavior such as knowledge ,attitudes, believes, and personal traits
Interpersonal level
Interpersonal processes and primarily groups including family friends, and peers provide social identity , support and role definitions
Institutional / organizational
Rules ,regulations , polices, and informal structures which may constrain or recommend behaviors
Community
Social networks or norms
Public policy
Local ,state and federal polices or groups that regulates or support healthy actions or practices for the disease prevention ,early detections and control of diseases
Reciprocal causation
Individual behavior both shapes and is shaped by the socialenvironment
Health belief model components
Perceived susceptibility of the disease Perceived severity Perceived benefits Perceived barriers Cues to action Cues to action Likelihood of taking recommended preventive health action
Trans theoretical model/ change model
Pre contemplation Contemplation Preparation Action Maintentenance
Pre contemplation
Has no intention of taking action in the next 6 months
Contemplation
Intends to make action in the next 6 months
Preparation
Intends to take action in the next 30 days and has taken some behavioral steps in this direction
