What is the difference between law and ethics?
Law is the rules of conduct established and enforced by the authorities to protect the general public. Whereas for ethics it is the code of moral and professional conduct for self-restraint to protect public interest.
List 4 differences between law and ethics
- Law is defined by a ruling government and can therefore be changed over time. However ethics are built up by society over time, and learnt from one generation to the next.
- Laws are enforced by the government, rules that must be followed. Whereas there are no proper enforcement for ethics, it is ingrained from our family, education or social circumstances.
- Laws are properly defined by the government but theres no proper punishment defined by the government for ethics
- Laws are defined scope by the government, but ethics are a bigger scope of control, from skipping queue to malpractice.
What are the similarities between law and ethics?
Both are ways of defining how to behave in society and aimed at making life better for everyone
both can used to resolve disagreements or conflicts
What is the aim of the Health Products Act?
To consolidate and streamline the regulatory controls of health products under one single act

What is under the 5th and 7th schedule of the health products regulations?
5th: cautionary information to be labelled on the TP (eg. antihistamine substance)
7th: list of medication for import of TP for personal use without importer’s license (eg. codeine)
