Burden of disease
A measure of the impact of diseases and injuries where everyone lives to old age without disease or disability.
Developed country
A country that has advanced adequately with regards to economy technology and health status.
DALY
A measure of burden of disease. One DALY equals one year of life lost due to premature or time lived with disease illness of disability.
Health Adjusted Life Years
A measure of burden of disease based on life expectancy at birth. It is the number of years in full health that a person can expect to live based on current health and mortality.
Health status
An individual’s or overall populations overall health, taking into account various aspects such as life expectancy, amount of disability and leaves of disease risk factors.
Incidence
The number of new diseases in a specific period of time.
Life expectancy
An indication of how long an individual’s is expected, how long they are supposed to live past a specific age should mortality rates stay the same.
Mental health
State of well being in which the individual realises his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully and is able to make a contribution to his or her community.
Morbidity
Refers to ill health in an individual or population group.
Mortality
Deaths in a population.
Physical health
Relates to the efficient functioning of the body and its system and includes the physical capacity to perform tasks and physical fitness.
Prevalence
The number or proportion of cases of a particular disease or condition present in a population at a given time.
Social health
Being able to interact with others and being able to interact in the community in both an individual and cooperative way.
Under 5 mortality
The number of deaths of children under 5 years old per 1000 live births.
YLD
A number of how many healthy years of life are lost due to illness injury or disability.
