1) Certification: meet education requirements and standards from agency
2) Registration: pass examination from professional association or state board
3) Licensure: be approved by government agency for scope of practice
What are continuing education units?
Additional hours of education a health professional needs to maintain their certification/registration/license
What are the four levels of health careers and their educational requirements?
1) Aide/Assistant: 1-2 years HSE, associates degree, or 2-4 years on-the-job training
2) Technician: 1-2 years HSE, associates degree, or 3-4 years on-the-job training
3) Therapist/Technologist: bachelors/master’s degree and work experience
4) Professional: bachelors/masters/doctoral degree

profession that maintains equipment, performs secretarial-receptionist duties, and can perform basic lab tests

A physician that diagnoses and manages/treats mental disorders or conditions
What is a psychologist?
Researchers that study human cognition, behavior, emotion, and interpersonal relationships

professionals that help patients follow a psychiatrist’s management/treatment/rehabilitation plan

professionals that give coping management, but may refer people to community resources
What are genetic counselors?
Professionals that evaluate the risk of congenital/developmental diseases/disorders AND provide coping management

career that supports survivors, manages legal information, and directs funeral services

career that prepares body for casket service

career that helps with embalming and funeral services
