Advantages;
- Creates advances in technology (proving more knowledge about how to treat the illness)
- enables many common problems to be efficiently treated
- extends life expectancy (in the past some infectious diseases caused death, now they can be treated and cured)

- Relies on professional health workers
- doesn’t always promote good health ( encourage as quick fix, it focuses on the condition rather then the determents that caused it
- Affordability ( not everyone can afford treatment, this is contributing to differences in health status between population groups)
The social model of health
Attempts to address the broader influences on health (social, cultural, environmental,economic factors,)
- recognises the relationship between the social determinants of health and health status. Such as socioeconomic status, access to health care, and social connectedness play in improving health status.

Addressing the broader determinants of health
Behavioural determinants such as reducing tobacco smoking, food intake. Other broader factors such as gender, culture, race, ethnicity, age, SES, geographical location & physical environment.
Involves intersectional collaboration
There are many government and non-gov organisations and stakeholders who have influence over the social and environmental determinants of health. Gov departments such as employment, education and finance. Aswell as private sectors.
Acts to reduce social inequities
The existence of unequal opportunity sand rewards for different social positions or status within a group or society. Eg. Gender, age, race. SES, access to health care, social exclusion and physical environment
Acts to enable health care
Many social and environmental factors that can impact access to health care, eg. Cultural and language barriers, economic and geographical factors and education levels
Empowers individual and communities
Meaning everyone can participle in decision making about their health, individuals are more likely to participle in healthy behaviours if they feel a sense of power and control over their situation. Empowering Individuals and communities with healthy knowledge and skills means that thy are in a position to make positive changes to their health
Advantages + disadvantage of social model of health
Advantages;
It promotes overall wellbeing: as the social model doesn’t just focus on diseases that are present is has the potential to promote the overall health
It promotes good health and assistants in preventing diseases
The responsible for health is shared
Disadvantages:
Not every condition can be prevented (genetic conditions)
It does not address health concerns for individuals
Health promotion messages may be ignored
Health promotion
Is the process of enabling people to increase control over and to improve their health. Health promotion therefore focuses on prevention rather then cute and uses the causes of disease as the stating point rather then the disease itself.
Biomedical model of health
Focus on the physical or biological aspects of disease and illness. It involves trying to diagnose and treat illnesses And conditions once symptoms are present. It centres around doctors, health professionals and hospitals who administer treatment .
