improving health by PARTNERING with them to promote self directed change

stress, smoking, sleep, physical activity, poor nutrition/obesity
What is the coach approach? how is it different from the expert approach?
it helps patients help themselves by building motivation, confidence, and engagement. increase self awareness and insight. patients strive to find answers themselves and focus on what is working well
**coach is collaborative while expert is lecturing
What is the Health Belief Model?
the idea that if there is a belief that there is a threat, there will be motivation to engage in behavior change

idea that intrinsic motivation is the key to behavior change
