Define the term ‘so far as is reasonably practicable’ which is used frequently in the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.

A

Employers to ensure ‘so far as is reasonable practicable’ the H&S of their employees, other people at work and members of the public
- Ensure work does not put others at risk or their own H&S
- Co-operate with employer on H&S matters and not do anything that puts them or others at risk
- Should be trained and clearly instructed in their duties
*What is reasonable, preventable, under their control (to a fair, reasonable standard)

*A JUDGEMENT CALL ON THE TIME, COST AND TROUBLE WEIGHED UP AGAINST THE RISK…
