What is a hazard?
Anything that has the potential to cause harm (e.g. wet floor)
What is a risk?
The probability / likelihood that someone will be harmed (e.g. risk of falling over on a wet floor)
What legislation do you know on PPE?
PPE at Work Regulations, 2022
What is a risk assessment and outline a simple risk assessment.
- Identify the hazards present
- Identify the people at risk from the hazards
- Evaluate the risk, considering likelihood and severity of accidents
- Record findings on a suitable form
- Review the risk assessment regularly
- Advise those affected of the outcome and precautions to minimise or eliminate risk
Legal requirement for organisations with more than 5 staff
What is a method statement?
A document that details the way a work or process is to be completed and prior approved
Should outline the hazards involved and include a step-by-step guide on how to do the job safely (and any control measures)
Who needs to do a preparation of a written health and safety policy document?
Organisations with more than 5 staff. It sets out:
- a policy stating the organisations commitment to H&S
- details of the H&S structure (incl. roles and responsibilities)
- Risk assessment (incl. preventative measures
- Details of planning and implementation of H&S policy and control measures
What is the ‘Six Pack’?
Group of 6 regulations introduced in 1963
