Q

What are drugs?

A

Drugs are substances that affect the natural chemical processes in our bodies

19
Q

What are recreational drugs?

A

Used by people for pleasure

20
Q

What are medicinal drugs?

A

Used by people who suffer from diseases

21
Q

What are the withdrawal symptoms of not having drugs when addicted?

A

Headaches, anxiety, sweating

22
Q

What is a stimulant?

A

Drug that excites bodily functions. They make you more alert.

23
Q

What is a depressant?

A

Drugs that slows down bodily functions

24
Q

What are harmful effects of alcohol?

A

Stomach ulcers
Heart disease
Brain + liver damage

25
Why should pregnant woman not drink?
Bad for the babies brain Miscarriage Still birth Premature birth Low weight births Foetal alcohol syndrome
26
What are harmful effects of smoking?
Heart disease Gangrene Throat cancer Strokes Lung disease (Emphysema) Respiratory infections
27
What is photosynthesis?
When a plan makes their own food using light
28
What is the word equation for photosynthesis?
Carbon dioxide + water - glucose + oxygen
29
What do plants do with the glucose made by photosynthesis?
They store it as starch and use it to grow Use it in respiration
30
The 3 things needed for photosynthesis are sunlight, water and carbon dioxide
CORRECT
31
The 2 things produced are glucose and oxygen
CORRECT
32
Where does photosynthesis occur?
Chloroplast
33
What are the four important minerals for healthy growth in plants?
Nitrate phosphates Potassium Magnesium
34
Cellular Respiration:
Glucose + oxygen - carbon dioxide + water
35
Where does cellular respiration happen?
in the mitochondria
36
How does carbon dioxide leave the body?
goes into the body cells, then to the blood stream, then alveoli in lungs, and then it is exhaled in the air
37
What does RBC contain?
Haemeglobin which joins oxygen and carries it around the blood
38
Describe where and how respiration takes place
Respiration takes place in the mitochondria. To transfer energy stored in food, glucose reacts with oxygen in a chemical reaction called aerobic respiration. This transfers energy into your cells.
39
What is Anerobic respiration equation?
glucose - lactic acid + energy WITHOUT OXYGEN
40
What is a food chain?
A series of organisms each dependent on the next as a source of food.
41
What is a producer?
They make their own food from the sun
42
What is a consumer?
Eats other things?
43
What is the order of the food chain?
producer primary consumer secondary consumer Tertiary consumer
44
What is an ecosystem?
All the living and non - living organisms found in one place and how they interact.
