What is health?
A state of complete mental, physical and social wellbeing. not simply the absence of disease or infirmity.
What is fitness?
Fitness is the ability to carry out every day activities without undue fatigue.
What factors effect our health?
- OBESITY - extremely overweight, movement limited, low self esteem, type 2 diabetes
- ANOREXIA - extremely light weight, heart attack prone, mental health problem
- OSTEOPOROSIS - weakening of the bones, bones are brittle, stops you from exercising
- SOCIAL DRUGS -taking drugs for enjoyment, potential mental health issues, addiction, loss of fitness
- FINANCIAL DIFFICULTIES - not enough money, poor diet, no time/money for exercise
- STRESS - high pressure, limited time, heart problems, stroke
- NOT EXERCISING - less than an hour/day, diseases, eg. high blood pressure/heart issues
What are the components of fitness?
- Balance
- Agility
- Cardio vascular fitness
- Coordination
- Flexibility
- Muscular endurance
- Power
- Reaction time
- Speed
- Strength
What is balance?
The ability to retain the body’s centre of mass above the base of support.
Types: dynamic, static
What is cardio vascular fitness?
The ability of the heart and lungs to supply oxygen to the working muscles.
What is agility?
The ability to change direction quickly.
What is co-ordination?
The ability to use different parts of the body smoothly and effectively.
What is flexibility?
The range of movement possible at a joint.
What is muscular endurance?
The ability to use voluntary muscles many times without getting tired.
What is power?
Strength + Speed
What is speed?
Performing body movements as quickly as possible.
What is strength?
The ability to overcome a resistance.
What are the components of fitness testing?
stalk test= balance ruler drop test=reaction time dynamometer strength test= strength sit and reach= flexibility wall sit= muscle endurance Illinois = agility wall toes = co-ordination standing long jump= power
