Health Flashcards
Effects of high cholesterol, high saturated fat and animal protein diets:
Animal protein promotes tumors and cancers
Only 5-10% of cancers are due to an inherited gene defect. 80-90% of cancers could be prevented by adopting a plant based diet.
Breast cancer rates have increased by 80% since 1970
Heart disease
Diabetes
Overweight and obese children
Meant to be herbivores
Long intestines designed to digest plants
Meat stays in our gut for a long time and rots
Our stomach acids are much weaker than true carnivores so its harder to break it down and kill the dangerous bacteria in meat
Carnivores produce vitamin C themselves. We don’t, we need to get it from plants
Our teeth are similar to herbivores, not carnivores
Antibiotics and hormones
Consuming all the antibiotics and hormones farmers inject into animals to prevent disease
Adrenaline and cortisol floods animals flesh before it dies
Rotting flesh
Eating a burger is eating four week old dead flesh
milk is designed to grow and bulk up calves not humans
51,000 mammals on the planet, we are the only ones consuming the milk of another
Over 70% of the worlds population cannot tolerate it
We stop producing significant amounts of lactase (enzyme needed to metabolize the sugar in milk) after we have been weaned
Saturated fat
One 8oz glass whole milk = 4 pieces of bacon
Calcium
Animal protein actually leeches calcium from our bones and is harsh on our kidneys and livers
Respiratory issues and skin
Dairy can cause and worsen asthma, skin problems
Eggs are healthy?
As bad as smoking 5 cigarettes a day in terms of life expectancy
Fish = healthy?
Fish contain saturated fat and cholestoral, and large % contain highly toxic, cancer causing chemicals
They provide no fibre or antioxidants
Omega 3 and 6 can be gotten from walnuts, seeds, beans, leafy greens, soy, seaweed (where the fish got it from in the first place)
Vitamin B12
B12 is actually produced by bacteria that live in the soil, animals get their B12 by eating plants
(The animals humans eat are vegetarian)
