People with a higher proportion of muscle to fat have a higher metabolic rate.
Physically bigger people need to supply their bodies with more energy and have a higher metabolic rate than smaller people.
Men are slightly bigger so have a higher metabolic rate than women.
Regular exercise can boost resting metabolic rate because it builds exercise.
