14
Q

What is fast twitch muscle fibres?

A

They are white and used for power such as sprinting, jumping and throwing. They contract rapidly no with a lot of speed and force

Q

What are slow twitch fibres?

A

They are red and used for longer duration activities of lower effort and force. Such as swimming, running and cycling. They control our posture

17
Q

Do bones grow?

A

Yes they grow in length from ages 15-18 for girls and 16-18 for boys

18
Q

What are joints?

A

They occur when two or more bones meet and join together

19
Q

What are the three types of joints?

A

Immovable fibrous joints
Slightly movable cartilaginous joints
Freely movable joints synovial

20
Q

What are connective tissue?

A

They create movement at the joint and act as a lubricant and shock absorber between the bones

21
Q

What are the three main types of connective tissue?

A

Cartilage
Tendons
Ligaments

22
Q

How many muscles do we have?

23
Q

Can people be born with more or less of slow/fast twitch fibres? What would they be better at?

A

Yes if more fast fibres then you are naturally better at fast paced things if more slow you are naturally better at long duration and low effort

24
Q

How many fast/slow twitch fibres do we have?

A

We usually have an even amount but can increase the fast or slow fibres by specifically training them

25
What does the nervous system do?
Sends messages to the rest of the body
26
What does the endocrine do?
It makes hormones
27
What does our skin do?
Protects us from disease and keeps fluids inside our bodies
28
What does the respiratory system do?
Oxygen intake and carbon dioxide removal
29
What does our circulatory system do?
Transports materials to and from all body cells
30
What does excretory system do?
Excretion of waste products
31
What does our digestive system do?
Provides nutrients for energy production
32
What does our skeletal system do?
Provides movement, shape and protection of vital organs
33
What does our muscular system do?
Creates movement by pulling on our bones, aids digestion and breathing
34
What does the reproduction system do?
Reproduces our species
35
What does our physical, mental and emotional health depend on?
Depend on all the systems of the body being in order
36
What do bones do?
Provide framework and levers for movement
37
What do muscles do?
Muscles pull on our bones (levers) to create movement
38
What do joints do?
They allow us to bend thus creating movement
39
What is bone made up of?
50% water 50% solid
40
Do bones have a hollow centre?
Yes some long bones are hollow which has bone marrow inside
41
Are bone living?
They are living structures capable of repair, growth and adaption
