Health Flashcards
What physical factors influence agriculture?(4)
Temperature, precipitation, soil quality, relief
Types of farming?(7)
Arable, pastoral, mixed, intensive, extensive, commercial, subsistence
Soil problems?(4)
Soil erosion, waterlogging, salinisation, structural deterioration
What does mortality mean?
Means death
What does morbidity mean?
Rate of disease in a population
What is carrying capacity?
Maximum number of people a given environment can support over a sustained period of time without environmental degradation
Environmental health issues?(3)
Ozone depletions, climate change, agricultural productivity
Health issues from changing environment ?(4)
Skin cancer, cataract, thermal stress, nutritional standards
Factors in future environmental relationship?(7)
Climate change, destruction of natural habitats, loss of biodiversity, unsafe water supplies, soil erosion, fossil fuels, toxic chemicals
Tropical Red Latosol location?
5° either side of the equator
Why does Red Latosol have a fast nutrient cycle?
High temp and humidity promote rapid decomposition, leading to a quicker relaase of nutrients into the soil
Zonal soil meaning?
Mature soils that reflect climatic conditions and associated vegetation
Why does Podsol soil have a poor nutrient cycle?
Coniferous evergreens don’t take up all elements such as calcium so these nutrients don’t get returned when needles fall (hence poor humus)
Where is Podsol soil found?
Areas with high rainfall and low temperatures (e.g. tundra)
Soil management methods? (7)
Crop rotation, irrigation management , direct drilling, cover crops, terracing, afforestation, improved drainage
Types of farming?
Arable, pastoral, mixed, intensive, extensive, commercial, subsistence
Agricultural inputs?
Labour, temp, precipitation, wind, seeds, machinery
Agricultural processes?
Gaming decisions, crop growing, livestock rearing
