Causes of stress
Major life changes, death in family, loss of job, loss of home, graduation, relocation, catastrophe, everyday problems, environmental problems.
Stress response
Physical, mental reaction that automatically occurs with the body perceives a threat.
Stages:
Alarm “fight or flight”: muscle contraction, breathing rate, heart rate, and gastric juices.
Resistance
The body tries to return to normal
effects
Mental: Behavior, poor sleep, overeating, distraction, cranky, emotional
Physical: Asthma
Coping methods
Breathing exercies, thankful cards, time management, exercise, and meditation.
