Communicable diseases
what are commnuicable diseases caused by
Pathogens
Spread through contact wtih an infected person, animal, object, or ingestion of contaminated food
pathogens
can also be transmitted through air and water making them airborne and waterborne
Communicable diseases
the time between the exposure to a contagious disease and the appearance of symptoms
Incubation Stage
lasts around one or two days, this is when the body reacts to the presence of pathogens
Prodromal stage
the disease is at its highest point that the they can be clinically tested to diagnose the disease
Illness stage
symptoms start to subside, but the patient still cannot return to doing normal activities
Declining stage
when the patient recovers his/her strength and returns to his/her normal state of health
Convalescent stage
state of being sick or unhealthy
Morbidity
number of death in a population
Mortality
diseases that have existed before but rapidly increase in incidence and geographic range
Emerging diseases
diseases that have been brought under control, but are resurfacing beacuse of changes in health conditions of a population
Re-emerging diseases
health of people within the United Nations systems
