What are the red flags of headaches? (9)
• Systemic symptoms
• Secondary risk factors
• Seizures
• Neurological signs and symptoms

• Precipitated by valsalva or cough
What is the presentation of a tension headache?
They typically cause a mild ache or pressure in a band-like pattern around the head. They develop and resolve gradually and do not produce visual changes.
What is the acute management of tension headaches? (2)
○ Reassurance
○ Simple analgesia (e.g., ibuprofen or paracetamol)
What is the first line management of chronic or frequent tension headaches?
Amitriptyline
What is sinusitis?
Sinusitis refers to inflammation of the paranasal sinuses in the face. It typically causes pain and pressure following a recent viral upper respiratory tract infection
What is the management of prolonged (>10days) sinusitis? (2)
Steroid nasal spray
Antibiotics (phenoxymethylpenicillin)
What are hormonal headaches related to?
Low oestrogen
What are the management options for hormonal headaches? (2)
Triptans
NSAIDs
What is cervical spondylosis?
Cervical spondylosis is a common condition caused by degenerative changes in the cervical spine. It causes neck pain, usually made worse by movement. It often presents with headaches.
What are the 3 branches of the trigeminal nerve?
• Ophthalmic (V1)
• Maxillary (V2)
• Mandibular (V3)
Is trigeminal neuralgia usually uni or bilateral?
Unilateral
What condition is trigeminal neuralgia associated with?
Multiple sclerosis
