Elevates eyebrows and wrinkles forehead
What is the action of the occipitalis muscle?
Draws back scalp, raises eyebrows and wrinkles forehead
What is the action of the orbicularis oculi?
Palpebral: closes gently
Orbital: closes forcibly
What is the action of the zygomaticus major?
Draws the angle of the mouth backward and upward (laughing)
What is the action of the zygomaticus minor?
Deepens the nasolabial furrow/sulcus (contempt)
What is the action of the orbicularis oris?
Close and protrude lips; draws lips to teeth and alveolar arches (deep and oblique fibers)
What is the action of the depressor anguli oris?
Depressor of the angle of the mouth
What is the action of the buccinator?
Aids in chewing and blowing
What is the action of the platysma?
Draws lower lip and angle of mouth inferolaterally; partially opens mouth; wrinkles and draws skin over clavicle upward
What is the action of the levator palpebrae superioris?
Raises upper eyelid
What is the action of the superior rectus?
Rotates eyeball superiorly; rotates top of eyeball medially
What is the action of the inferior rectus?
Rotates the eyeball inferiorly; rotates the top of the eyeball laterally
What is the action of the medial rectus?
Rotates the eyeball medially
What is the action of the lateral rectus?
Rotates the eyeball laterally
What is the action of the superior oblique?
Rotates the eyeball medially (antagonizes the inferior rectus)
