Scratching, infections
What is conjunctiva?
The outer covering of the sclera
When performing a nose assessment, why is it important to look inside the nasal cavity?
For any color abnormalities, swelling, or deformities, such as a deviated septum
When performing an ear assessment, why is it important to check the ear for redness, or swelling?
For any infections
Is it normal for the outside of the ear to be irritated?
No!

Infection/inflammation
What is thrush?
A fungal infection that makes the tongue look white
Why should we assess the trachea?
To see if it is midline, and it does not deviate (which is a medical emergency)

Difficulty moving the neck
Pain
Trauma
Dizziness
What does objective data concerning the head?
Size and shape of the head
facial symmetry
Palpation of the skull and sinuses
What is the name for abnormal size of the head
Microcephaly
What is range of motion for the neck when checking movement?
Remember EFLE
Extension -looking up
Flexion -looking down or chin to chest
Lateral rotation -look to the right or left
Ear to shoulder -right ear to shoulder than left ear to shoulder
What are the two sinuses that you should palpate?
Frontal and maxillary
What is conjunctiva?
The pink, fleshy part around the bottom eyelid
Why do we use an ophthalmoscope for the eyes?
To evaluate PERRLA
What is a Snellen chart?
A chart used to demonstrate vision
What is an E chart?
A chart used for people that don’t understand the alphabet
What is an injected sclera?
A red or irritated sclera
