When to perform a head CT in a person <16 years following head injury
A
CT within 1 hr if
One or more of:
- Suspected NAI
- Post traumatic seizure with no hx of epilepsy
- GCS <14 (if <1year old CT if GCS <15) - after 2hrs following injury
- Suspected open/ depressed fracture of skull or tense fontanelle
- Signs of basal skull fracture
- Focal neurologicsl deficit
- Children <1yr: presence of bruising/ swelling/ laceration >5cm on the head
2 or more of:
- LOC >5mins
- Abnormal drowsiness
- 3+ discrete vomiting episodes
- Dangerous mechanism of injury
- Amensia >5mins
