What are the symptoms of head and neck cancers?
Symptoms predominantly include a sore that does not heal or a change in the voice
Some may experience a sore throat that does not go away. In those with advanced disease, there may be unusual bleeding, facial pain, numbness or swelling, and visible lumps on the outside of the neck or oral cavity
What is the cause of most head and neck cancers?
The majority of head and neck cancer is caused by the use of alcohol or tobacco, including smokeless tobacco, with increasing cases linked to the human papillomavirus
How would you pathologically classify most head and neck cancers?
Squamous cell cancers
How would you diagnose head and neck cancers?
Biopsy
What age do head and neck cancers usually present?
55-65
What is the five year survival for head and neck cancers?
40-65%
How would you manage head and neck cancers?
Mainly: surgery
Also: radiation and targeted therapy
