Head and Neck anatomy part B Flashcards
what are the boundaries of the supraglottis?
inferior surface of epiglottis to vestibular folds
what are the boundaries of the glottis?
Contains vocal folds + 1cm below them
what are the boundaries of the subglottis?
inferior border of glottis to inferior border of cricoid cartilage
the larynx is at what vertebral level?
C3-C6
what epithelium lines the larynx?
Pseudostratified ciliated columnar epithelium
what epithelium lines the true vocal folds?
Stratified squamous epithelium
which arteries supply the larynx?
Superior laryngeal a (superior thyroid a)
Inferior laryngeal a (inferior thyroid a)
what nerves provide the sensory supply to the infraglottis?
Recurrent laryngeal nerve
what nerve supplies sensation to the supraglottis?
Internal branch of superior laryngeal nerve
what nerve supplies motor supply to the larynx?
recurrent laryngeal nerve, except for cricothyroid supplied by external branch of superior layngeal nerve
in bilateral partially damaged recurrent laryngeal nerve injury what position do the vocal cords adopt?
Bilateral incomplete cord paralysis –> Cords come together –> stridor
the thyrohyoid membrane is pierced by what structures?
Superior laryngeal vessels
internal laryngeal nerve
the space between the vocal folds is known as what?
Rima Glottidis
the lower edge of what membrane forms the vestibular ligament?
Quadrangular membrane
the upperfree edge of what ligament forms the vocal ligament?
Cricothyroid
