Nerves - spinal assessory nerve
Muscles of mastication
Lateral+medial pterygoid, masseter, temporalis
Which pterygoid opens and closes the mouth
Medial closes, lateral opens
Which nerve supplies muscles of mastication
Mandibular branch of trigeminal
Digastric muscle is supplied by
trigeminal nerve - anterior belly
Facial nerve - posterior belly
What supplies taste to the tongue
Anterior 2/3 Facial nerve does taste and lingual does sensation.
Which nerve supplies motor supply to the tongue
Hypoglossal nerve
Which structures pass through the parotid gland
Retromandibular vein, facial nerve, external carotid artery
What is Frey’s syndrome
It is gustatory sweating. The parasympathetic nerves from the auricotemporal nerve that usually supplies salivary glands, regrow to the sympathetic neves supplying the sweat glands
What embryological origin does the thyroid have
Between 1st and 2nd arch
What embryological origin does the parathyroids have
Superior parathyroid comes from 3rd pouch and inferior parathyroid comes from 4th pouch
What is the surface marking of the parotid gland
Zygomatic arch, angle of mandible, SCM, masseter
