Describe the course of the facial nerve VII

A

7th paired CN
2nd pharyngeal arch

Motor -facial expression, posterior belly digastric, stylohoid and stapedius.
Sensory - Small area around chonha of the external ear.
Special sensor: sensation to anterior 2/3 of the tongue via chorda tympani
Parasympathetic: supply’s glands lacrimal, submandibular and sublingual and pharyngeal mucous glands.

Intracranial: pons, throu temporal bone

-geniculate ganglion
-greater petrosal - parasympathetic to the lacrimal gland
- Nerve to stapedius -motor fibers
- Chorda Tympani - special fibers to anterior 2/3 tongue and parasympathetic fibers to submandibular and sublingual glands

Exit located stylomastoid foramen.

Nerve to digastric
Nerve to stylohyoid
