FACE
• Inspect • Check for symmetry • To assess Cranial Nerve 7, check the following: – Raise eyebrows – Smile – Frown – Show teeth – Puff out cheeks – Tightly close eyes
FACE - CRANIAL NERVE 7 TEST
– Raise eyebrows – Smile – Frown – Show teeth – Puff out cheeks – Tightly close eyes
CRANIAL NERVE VII FUNCTION
The facial nerve provides both sensory and motor functions, including: moving muscles used for facial expressions as well as some muscles in your jaw. providing a sense of taste for most of your tongue.
CRANIAL NERVE VII LOCATION
The two 7th Cranial Nerves (CN VII) are located on either side of the brainstem, at the top of the medulla.
CRANIAL NERVE VII MAIN FUNCTION
The main function of each of the two 7th cranial nerves is facial movement on the same side (ipsilateral).
CRANIAL NERVE VII STIMULATION
Left sided forehead wrinkle, left eyelid closure, and movement of the left half of the face is stimulated by the left 7th cranial nerve. Lacrimation (tearing) and salivation are also stimulated by the 7th cranial nerve. The 7th cranial nerve also has some sensory component including the sense of taste (anterior 2/3 of the tongue).
EYES
• Inspects external eye structures
• Inspect color of conjunctiva and sclera
• PERRLA
