What is a statutory label
Mandatory labelling or labeling (see spelling differences) is the requirement of consumer products to state their ingredients or components.
What is a voluntary label
Voluntary – this is information that the manufacturer includes as they feel it may be useful for the consumer
What are the advantages of seasonal food
They are likely to be local or grown in the UK
The food miles will be low
What are the disadvantages of seasonal food
They can be served too often having too much of one food can be repetitive
If the food cannot all be sold or used quickly enough it can be wasted
Why is sensory evaluation carried out?
It is carried out so people know how the product is going to taste
What is sensory evaluation
It is when you eat food and you judge it on its characteristics
What are the 4 characteristics in sensory evaluation
Appearance
Taste
Smell(aroma)
Texture(how it feels in the persons mouth)
