What is the procedure

A

Secure camera to a tripod
Set the dial to manual
F11 for good DoF
Use the inner scale to set your shutter speed
Take a photo - the camera will try to average out 18% grey
Using only the shutter speed, slow down to expose for shadows and speed up for highlights.
Should now have 3 images to combine on computer

What is bit depth

A

Refers to the amount of detail captured per pixel/image
Normally 8 bit
Can change to 16 or even 32 in photoshop
Enables more enhancement of image without losing detail
