A composite measure of development used by the United Nations to measure and rank countries’ levels of social and economic develpment.

A
Uses more than one variable to improve accuracy . It takes a variety of socio-economic indicators into account. No single factor can tip the scales

A
- Life expectancy at birth,
- mean years of schooling for adults aged 25 years,
- expected years of schooling for children at school entering age,
- Gross National Income (GNI) per capita
