hazmat trucks and tanks Flashcards
what is a ton container?
hold compressed liquefied gasses, hold 2000 pounds of product and are 8 feet in length and 3 feet in diamter
what are intermodal tanks?
both shipping and storage vessels. they hold between 5000 and 6000 gallons of product and can be either pressurized or nonpressurized. Can ship cryogenic liquids and can be shipped air, sea, or land.
What is an IM-101 portable tank?
have a 6300 gallon capacity with internal working pressures between 25.4 and 100 psi. Carry mild corrosives, food-grade products, and flammable liquids.
What is an IM-102 portable tank?
have a 6300 gallon capacity with internal working pressures between 14.7 and 25.4. Primarily carry nonhazardous materials but may also contain flammable liquids and corrosives.
What is a pressure intermodal tank (IMO type 5 or DOT Spec 51)
high pressure vessels with internal pressures in the range of 100-600 psi. Commonly hold liquefied compressed gases.
What is a cryogenic intermodal tank (IMO type 7)
low pressure containers in transport but can be pressurized to 600 psi. Commonly carries cryogenic materials that have a temp of less than -150 F.
What is a tube module?
Consist of several high pressure tubes attached to a frame. The tubes have working pressures that range as high as 5000 psi. Commonly carry hydrogen and oxygen.
What is an intermediate bulk container?
Capabilities greater than 119 gallons but less than 793 gallons.
What is a super sack?
Hold solid material weighing anywhere from 500 pounds to several thousand pounds.
What is a nonpressure liquid cargo tank (MC-306/DOT 406)?
carry liquid food grade products, gasoline, or other flammable and combustible liquids. Can carry between 6000 and 10,000 gallons of product. Nonpressurized, pressure is between 2.65 and 4 psi.
what is a low pressure chemical cargo tank(MC-307/DOT 407)?
round or horseshoe shaped tank and can hold 6000 and 7000 gallons of liquid. Used to transport flammable liquids, mild corrosives, and poisons. Internal pressure of up to 35 psi.
what is a chemical cargo tank (MC-312/DOT 412)?
used to carry corrosives. reinforcing rings around tank. Operates at approximately 15 to 25 psi, and holds approximately 6000 gallons.
