Definition & Description Of Labels
Article or substances capable of posing a significant risk to health, safety or property when transported by air. There are 9 classes of dangerous goods.
Labels are diamond shaped with equal sides
3 Categories Of Items Allowed On An A/C
Acceptable: Allowed in air cargo only; ammunition (11lbs per PAX) & battery powered mobility devices.
Limited: Allowed for air travel within the cabin in limited amounts (3oz-1qt-1pax rule); nail polish, gels, & hairspray.
Forbidden: Never acceptable for air travel anywhere; fish sauce, fireworks, helium balloons, and self heating meals
Helium ballons on the A/C?
Balloons must be stabbed and slashed allowing helium to completely expel from the balloon.
Balloons are not appropriate transportation for helium.
Self heating meals on the A/C?
Move meal to galley
Allow to completely cool
Dispose in a loosely tied garbage bag to prevent carbonated fluids from coming in contact with meals and re-heating.
Hazmat Spills
Notify FD of spill, give best description possible and stand by for further instructions.
Establish a ban around area & ready firefighting equipment
Contain the spill & gather supplies for cleanup
Treat area as contaminated
Place all items in trash bag, expel air and secure.
Stow in locked lavatory & place hazmat warning sticker across door
Regularly inspect area and items for any changes
Move PAX away from area & distribute wet towels
No oxygen or portable O2 may be administered
Notify FD to advise ground personnel of spill and location
PAX Boarding With Hazmat Label On A/C and F/A Responsibility
Keep PAX off A/C & notify FD and CSA
F/A or CSA is to inspect item outside of A/C
If no hazmat is present PAX may board once label is removed or defaced
If present keep PAX off A/C and notify CSA & FD
