Hazards Flashcards
It is the identification, study, and monitoring of any
hazard to determine its potential, origin,
characteristics, and behavior.
IMPORTANT
HAZARD ANALYSIS
3 purpose of hazard analysis
Not included
- provide descriptions of the hazards
- help in setting priorities corresponding to the
need for protection; and - assist in designing the appropriate DRRM
system, plan, programs, and services.
It improves the concept of emergency management by going one step backwards before a disaster or crisis happens which people mitigate and possibly prevent the effects of disaster.
DISASTER PREPAREDNESS
It is an approach conceptualized as a cyclical model that features prevention, mitigation, preparedness, disaster response (formerly emergency response), recovery, and development.
IMPORTANT
DISASTER MANAGEMENT
this refers to activities that provide outright avoidance of the adverse impact of hazards and the means to minimize related environmental, technological, and biological disasters.
PREVENTION
this involves structural and non-structural measures undertaken to limit the adverse impacts of natural hazards.
MITIGATION
this entails pre-disaster activities that are undertaken within the context of disaster risk management and are based on sound risk analysis.
PREPAREDNESS
it refers to the provision of assistance or intervention during or immediately after a disaster for life preservation and to meet the basic needs of those affected.
RELIEF/RESPONSE
this includes decisions and actions taken after a disaster with a view of restoring or improving pre-disaster living conditions of the stricken community while encouraging and facilitating necessary adjustments to reduce disaster risk.
RECOVERY
it involves proactive actions that allow national, sectoral, regional, or local government and its partners to support and engage the intellectual, physical, and economic resources to
chart a course toward a desired future of development.
