“Hawk Roosting”
Emphasises the birds importance to the poem.
Roosting = Resting
- hawk must feel comfortable, safe and in control.

The hawk does not need dreams as its reality is perfect.

Hawk seems to think that the natural world has been designed just so suit it.
“i hold creation in my foot”
The hawk believes its more powerful than God now.
“I kill where i please because it is all mine”
Monosyllabic language suggests that the Hawk is confident.

There is a sense of control and that the hawk is playing God throughout the poem.
Final words – “I am going to keep things like this”
Shows the power that the hawk has. It is a
statement suggesting he is king of the animal kingdom and untouchable.
Structure
The clearly organised structure of the six stanzas reflects the hawk’s control over his life and land.
The steady and calm pace to the poem again mirrors the hawk’s measured control over the
woodland – he will not be rushed by anyone.
