Q

paragraph 1

A
  • power and arrogance of the hawk immediately established, destructive
  • ‘revolve it all slowly’ - admires what he owns
  • ‘i kill where i please because it is all mine’ - abrupt, simplistic language, yet threatening and ominous, confident tone, no hesitation, no challenge to his authority
  • ‘my manners are tearing off heads’ - callous, lacks empathy, violent and sudden nature of attacks, as if he derives joy from it,

Q

paragraph 2

A
  • hawk rejects nature and evolution, assumes a godlike position
  • utilises the ‘air’s buoyancy’ and ‘the suns ray’ - exploits nature, crafted specially for him, have led to his successful pursuit of power
  • ‘and the earth’s face upward for my inspection’ - personified earth, desperately awaiting approval, eager to be scrutinised
  • ‘the sun is behind me. nothing has changed’ - implication that the sun is inferior to the hawk, despite its power, rejects change, though it is inevitable
  • ‘i am going to keep things like this’ - doesn’t only control nature but also time
