- ‘my manners are tearing off heads’ - callous, lacks empathy, violent and sudden nature of attacks, as if he derives joy from it,

- utilises the ‘air’s buoyancy’ and ‘the suns ray’ - exploits nature, crafted specially for him, have led to his successful pursuit of power
- ‘and the earth’s face upward for my inspection’ - personified earth, desperately awaiting approval, eager to be scrutinised
- ‘the sun is behind me. nothing has changed’ - implication that the sun is inferior to the hawk, despite its power, rejects change, though it is inevitable
- ‘i am going to keep things like this’ - doesn’t only control nature but also time
