What does ‘Hauling aloft’ mean?

A

Pulling equipment to a place above ground by attaching it to a line

A

a) in a line bag
b) line without bag (figure of 8)
c) line without bag (continuous loop)
d) loose line (overhand knot in end of line and placed over shoulder)

What are the commands when hauling aloft equipment?

A

a) ‘UP TOP’ and ‘BELOW’ to get attention
b) ‘STAND FROM UNDER’ When dropping line
c) ‘CLEAR THERE’ From below to indicate safe space to throw
d) ‘HAUL ALOFT’ once equipment has been secured, and top will confirm ‘RIGHT’
e) if tail isn’t long enough for guiding equipment, add more
f) ‘WELL’ when equipment high enough to be grabbed
g) to lower, ‘HAUL AWAY FROM BUILDING’ and waits for bottom to grab tail line and shout ‘RIGHT’
h) ‘GROUND’ when equipment is on floor and there’s enough slack to untie

A

a) An overhand knot is tied in the hose just below the branch
b) line is then tied around the over hand knot with a clove hitch, is then ready to haul aloft

How do you haul a Dutch rolled hose aloft?

A

a) find middle of personal line and thread it through centre of rolled hose
b) pass the two ends of line through the loop that’s been created, pull line tight so couplings are secured at top of roll
c) take a bight in the long line and tie figure of 8 knot, creating fixed loop
d) take the two ends of personal line and tie double sheet bend around fixed loop

A

a) leave minimum tail length of 0.5m to make sure knot cannot undo accidentally
b) keep hands well clear of window sill or balcony rail when hauling or lowering
c) pull it pay out hand over hand
d) don’t let it run through hands in case of debris/glass
e) always wear gloves
f) prevent line becoming damaged as it passes over window sills/ledges
