What was the German reaction from the TOV?

A

Germany was angry, caused the ‘Stab in the back’ conspiracy. German’s thought they were betrayed by a socialist Jew forcing the country to surrender.

A

Nazi’s believed Germans were the master race, so they created a agenda so they could dominate the weak.

Describe Appeasment

A

Britain and France never opposed Germany as it rejected the TOV. Britain did this as they did not want another war with Germany and France did this as they were politically disjointed and did not have the capability to begin a war.

Describe the Great Depression and how Hitler benefited from it.

A

In 1929, the US Stock Market crashed causing worldwide economic failure. Germany was affected the worst with 33% unemployed.

Nazi party preached on returning Germany to former greatness, the desperate German population listened, giving the Nazi party more political power and popularity.

Describe what was the blitz and what life was like during it.

A

May 1940 - British army retreated from German offense, Germany decided to bomb the UK to defeat them. Every night from Sept 1940 - May 1941 UK was bombed.

Many died and were injured but the morale stayed high to show the Germans they could not defeat them. Life still went on and everyone adapted. Milkman still delivered milk haha.

Describe the fall of Singapore

A

SIngapore had the main British military base in Asia and on 8th Dec 1941, Japan invaded, overpowering Britain until they surrendered.

What was the significance of the fall of Singapore?

A

80’000 prisoners were taken, 15’000 were Aussies. Australia was left to defend themselves from Japan’s invasion. Australia formed an alliance with America. Very significant for the war and for the future.

Describe Kokoda and significance.

A

Japan and Australia fought tirelessly to capture Port Moresby. Australia eventually pushed Japan back and away, defending themselves from a supposed Japanese invasion.

Describe the bombing of Darwin.

A

19th Feb 1942 - Darwin bombed by 242 Japanese aircraft without any warning. Australia was very disorganised and many soldiers ran away, misunderstanding their orders. Once the attack was finished, the government did not let the public know about the bombing as to not worry society about a Japanese attack. Little did we know, Japan just wanted to neutralize the base.

A

It was first to gain control of oil but changed to capturing the city of Stalingrad

A

Hungary, Romania and Italy

Describe the Stalingrad battle

A

When Germany entered the city, they captured 90% of it while fighting extremely effective soviet troops until the Russian counter attack.

The Russian counter attack was surrounding the entire city and then launching a major offensive attack. The other countries helping Germany retreated, leaving Germany alone to surrender.
