Parliament is an assembly of representatives, (usually of an entire nation) that makes laws
What Is The Westminister System
The Westminister system is a system of government originating from the UK, in which people do not directly elect their government but leave it to the elected legislature to install, supervise, and remove the government.
What Is The Difference Between Statute Law and Common Law?
State law is made by parliament and common law is built on a case-by-case basis and is decided by judges which creates a precedent
What Is The Separation of Powers
The Powers and functions of the government are divided into three branches:
The Legislature, The Executive, and The judiciary
What Is The Division of Powers?
When laws are shared in different levels of goverment
What Is The Senate
The Senate is the upper house and includes 76 senators, The Senate has the power to review and scrutinize legislation proposed by the House of representatives
What Is The House Of Representatives
The house of reps is the lower house also know as the people house.
People choose the representatives. Legislation first comes out of the house of reps before going into the senate. (it includes 151 members)
What is Royal Assent
the final stage in the legislative process which is required for a bill to become a law and has to be accepted by the governer general.
What Is Concurrent powers
The Powers that are held by both the federal and state governments
e.g Taxation, Law Enforcement.
