Major
A happy, uplifting sound
Minor
A sad, serious sound
Tonal
Has a sense of tone/key
Atonal
No sense of a fixed tone/key
Pentatonic
Five note scale
Modal
Came before scales, e.g. D-D on white notes
Whole tone scale
A scale made of whole tones, mysterious
Harmony
Two or more notes of a different pitch
Chromatic
Scale with every note, moves in semitones
Diatonic
A scale only using the notes from the major/minor scale
Consonance
Harmonies that sound nice
Dissonance
Clashing harmonies
Discords
Harsh, dissonant sounding notes
Close harmony
Notes within the harmony are close together
Drone
Long, sustained note usually in the bass; sometimes two notes
Modulation
To change key/tonality

When a minor key finishes with a major chord
Cadences - perfect, imperfect, plagal, unfinished
