Harmonics of stationary waves on a string Flashcards
1
Q
relationship between length and wavelength
A
L = mλ/2 (m = number of harmonic)
2
Q
relationship between the number of harmonic and antinodes
A
Number of harmonic is equal to the number of antinodes
3
Q
What are harmonics and how ar etey formed on a wave on a string ?
A
Multiple wavelengths can be produced on a fixed length or string. (They have correspondingly different frequencies). The different frequencies are called harmonics.
4
Q
1st harmonic equation
A
f1 = c/λ1 = c/2L
5
Q
2nd harmonic equation
A
f2 = c/λ2 = c/L
6
Q
3rd harmonic equation
A
f3 = c/λ3 = 2c/3L
7
Q
How is the equation formed
A
Each stationary wave has frequency (2x,3x,4x ect) of first harmonic.
