What is Harm Minimization?
Harm minimisation aims to address alcohol and other drug issues by reducing the harmful effects of alcohol and other drugs on individuals and society.
What are the three steps to minimise harm in risky situations?
Recognise, react & report
Define Recognise:
Realise that a situation has the potential to become unsafe or cause harm. Take notice of how you feel and your body’s warning signs. Be aware of your surroundings.
Define React:
Respond to situations that feel unsafe by developing strategies or a plan of action. Develop decision-making and assertiveness skills.
DECIDE?
Define Report:
Report what you consider an unsafe situation to an adult. Develop a network of people with whom you can share your concerns and who can help you.
