Harfacing Flashcards
1
Q
Types of wear
A
Abrasion Impact Erosion Corrosion Thermal Compression Oxidation
2
Q
Types of hard facing electrodes
A
High speed steels Austenitic manganese steels Chromium carbides Tungsten carbides Copper alloys Nickel chromium alloys
Refer to the chart on page 220 for their AWS identifications
3
Q
Types of hard facing patterns and what they’re good for
A
Grid or “waffle” pattern
Abrasion wear
Parallel line or “stringer beads” pattern
Run in the direction of material flow. This pattern is particularly suited for the teeth or dipper shovels that work with rocks. The rocks ride the hard facing beads protecting the base metal
Button pattern
Is good for impact wear
4
Q
Problems in hardfacing
A
Cost Dilution Spalling Stress failure Cracking Distortion
