Oak
light brown, strong, hard, tough, open grained. its chemical properties it corrodes steel screws and fittings.
Oak is visually appealing and is often used for interior woodwork
Beech
white pinkish brown, close grained, hard, tough, strong, and can warp easily hard to use with hand tools due to toughness.
wear resistant qualities beech is often used for toys, tool handles.
Mahogany
pink to reddish-brown, fairly strong, durable, some interlocking grain. fairly easy to cut with hand tools.
used for panelling, internal window frame & sills.
Meranti
light red to dark red. may darken to deep red, brown or dark yellow. sometimes referred to as Philippine mahogany.
used for decorative purposes such as mouldings, furniture and window frames.
Elm
light medium brown, open and sometimes interlocking grain, tough , durable, resists splitting, durable in water.
frequently used for veneer panelling. find it often in chair and sofa frames
