Q

What is Hansen sphere space theory?

A
  • A method of predicting solubility of different polymers in a solvent
  • Using the paramaters (Dispersion forces, Polar forces and Hydrogen forces) a sphere with radius R0 can be drawn on a 3d plot
  • If the solvent is plotted within this sphere, then they have similar Hansen parameters therefore being a good solvent

Q

What is meant then if Ra<R0

A

The radius of the sphere indicating the difference between the Hansen parameters of the solvent and polymer is smaller than the Polymer Hansen Parameters, indicating that the solvent is a good one
