Q

What is air pressure

A

Air pressure is caused by the air on the surface of land and heat. Although we can’t feel it the air above us is pressing down on us, giving air pressure. If air pressure is low it means it is rising if air pressure is high it means air is sinking.

15
Q

What is an upland area with a temperature less than -1 Clecius

A

The Grampian mountains

16
Q

Stuff about latitude

A

As latitude increases temperature decreases due to less heating from the sun

17
Q

Stuff about distance from The coast

A

The sea takes a long time to heat up and cool down. in winter it stays relatively warmer than land in winter the sea has a warming affect on land. In summer the sea takes a long time to warm up Qin summer the sea has a cooling effect on land. Places closer to the coast have a moderate temperature. They may also feel wetter depending on the wind direction

18
Q

What is prevailing wind direction

A

Prevailing wind direction is wind from the south bringing warm temperatures. Wind from the north brings cool temperatures. Wind from the sees bring wet conditions. Wind from land areas bring dry conditions

19
Q

What are ocean currents

A

Ocean currents from the equator can carry warm water across the sea. This warm water warms the air above it and the land it reaches

20
Q

What is the height above sea level

A

As altitude increases temperature decreases. This means that the upland areas have lower temperatures

21
Q

What is shelter

A

Areas exposed to strong wins may be cooler other places may be sheltered and have slightly higher temperatures. Areas on exposed mountain peaks may have more rainfall but areas in the rain shadow are drier

22
Q

How built up is a place

A

Built up areas produce and trap energy. They are warmer than rural areas

23
Q

What are isobars

A

Isobars are lines that join places at the same air pressure

24
Q

What is low pressure systems

A

When air rises it creates low pressure system. Air rising means clouds form and there is a possibility of rain

25
Q

What is high pressure systems

A

When air sinks and warms this causes a high pressure system. There are clear skies and no rain.
